Reiki

What Is Reiki?

Reiki was developed in 1922 by a Japanese Buddhist, Mikao Usui, and has since been adapted by many teachers of varying traditions. Reiki is a form of energy healing, channelled through the practitioner, and drawn by the client themselves. It works in conjunction with other medical and therapeutic techniques and heals on an emotional, physical mental and spiritual level.

What happens during a Reiki session?

During a Reiki session you will lie fully clothed on a couch. I will ask you a few health questions which will help me identify which chakras might need energy unblocking or boosting for the treatment and I will have a chat with you about the process and what to expect.  Please let me know if there are any areas you would like me to focus on or if you have any injuries or places that are sensitive to touch. I will then ask you to lie on my couch before asking you if you’re comfortable receiving a hands-on treatment or if you would prefer for me to put my hands just above you. I then put my hands, one at a time, on or above the energy points of the body, which are called chakras (there are seven chakras, as shown in the picture above) to check for energy blockages in your body.

You can either keep your eyes open or closed during the session, whichever is most comfortable for you and usually there isn’t any talking. I will be able to tell if there is a blockage when I put a hand over the chakra, as there will either be a feeling of hot or cold, which you might feel as well. There will be music playing during the session to help you relax and I usually burn an essential oil of your choice too. You may feel heat or tingling but try just to let the feelings pass by if you can.  A session will last about 45-50 minutes and then we can discuss what you and I felt and how you found the session too. After the session I recommend that you drive carefully, drink plenty of water to flush toxins from your body and try to relax when you get home if possible after the session. I would recommend a course of at least four sessions to get the most out of having Reiki.
